Withings Body+
Jun 11, 2020 James Martin/CNET. Withings' digital bathroom scale comes packed with lots of features that go above and beyond the rest. It provides detailed historical data and metrics on your weight, BMI, body. Feb 18, 2018 I have the WS50 Smart Body Analyzer which I purchased from the Apple Store. Works well, although there are a couple of Withings apps and the scale is seen by the iphone app called 'Withings' and not the other one. Looks weird on an iPad. I don't think that the batteries in my WS50 last 18 months, but can't confirm. The Withings WiFi Body Scale ($160) takes this concept to the next level in many ways, including allowing you access to all your data on a gorgeously designed iOS app. It also adds an even more.
The Fitbit Aria 2 works well with your Fitbit tracker to help paint a better overall picture of your health. It may not measure as much as some of the other smart scales, but what it does measure it measures well. Plus, it syncs flawlessly and recognizes individual users extremely well.
Pros
- Wi-Fi syncing with your Fitbit app
- Supports up to eight users
- Keeps your data private from other users
Cons
- A bit pricey
- Doesn't track as much as some of the competition
The Withings (Nokia) Body+ is one of the best smart scales money can buy. It measures and displays the important metrics (more than the Aria 2), and it automatically syncs over Wi-Fi, so you don't need your phone on you at the weigh-in.
Pros
- Tracks all the major metrics
- Excellent display
- Customizable web account
- Syncs with Apple Watch, Fitbit, and more
The breakdown
We're a virtual company made up of tech experts from across the globe. We know scales are for more than just tracking weight — they can be a powerful health tool, and the right smart scale can be huge for your fitness journey. Our top pick is the Withings Body+. The largest difference between the Withings Body+ and the Fitbit Aria 2 is the number of measurements each scale tracks. While the Fitbit Aria 2 is an excellent simple scale for Fitbit users, it's missing some key smart scale measurements that the Withings Body+ tracks quite well.

As you can see from the above table, the Body+ just measures more, offering a better total picture of your weight. It even gives you the local weather so that you can plan your day.
The Withings Body+ is geared toward need specific measurements such as water weight, bone mass, muscle mass, and nutrition tracking. It's also great for growing families, with the Pregnancy Tracker and Baby Mode. The Fitbit Aria 2 is more of an 'everyone' scale. It measures and tracks the aspects of your body that are important for everyday health, like BMI and body fat percentage. The accompanying Withings Health Mate app syncs with over 100 other health apps, including Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, and RunKeeper.

Fitbit Aria 2
Straightforward
Great for Fitbit tracker users
While the Fitbit Aria 2 is missing some major metrics found in the Withings Body+, it doesn't need them to appeal to 'regular' Fitbit users. It's simply great for anyone looking to get more fit while tracking a little more than just weight.
Withings Body+
More features
In-depth weight tracking
While the Withings Body+ is great for everyone, it truly benefits athletes and fitness fanatics who are looking for more in-depth weight metrics, like muscle mass. Plus, it's $30 cheaper than the Aria 2, so it may be altogether more attractive.

Garmin Index Smart Scale
The whole picture
Withings Body Cardio Smart Scale
Garmin is one of the most respected names in GPS and sport/fitness. Here's a high-quality smart scale just waiting to help you lose or maintain your weight and stay fit.
Pros
- Ability to attach to a laptop with USB-ANT rather than a smartphone
- Tracks data for up to 16 different people
- Large, easy-to-see display
Cons
- Uses 4 AA batteries, is not rechargeable
- Limited third-party integration
- Will record your weight just once per day
This scale works with the Health Mate app, one of the most popular health/fitness trackers for smartphone users. If you're already using a Withings product, the odds are pretty good you'll love this smart scale.
Pros
- Health Mate app compatibility
- Includes pregnancy tracker
- Provides weather forecast on screen
- Rechargeable battery lasts up to a year between charges
Cons
- Track up to eight users only
- Smudgy glass surface
- Slow weigh-in when all measures are taken
These smart scales are both powerful and provide all the tools most people need to better track their weight and other health metrics. In some respects, both are overkill for most users since they track anything from weight to bone mass and even the weather. If that's of interest to you, you can't go wrong with either option, so the choice comes down to possible brand loyalty and how you feel about some smaller features.
A closer look
As you can see below, both products track similar metrics such as your Body Mass Index (BMI), water percentage, and fat mass. Where they differ is how they are powered and how the data collected is shared. Where the Garmin requires four AA batteries, the Withings scale includes a rechargeable Lithium battery.
The Garmin works with the Garmin Connect Mobile app on your phone or by syncing with your computer. The Withings scale, by contrast, only works wirelessly with the Health Mate app, although the data, once collected, is viewable online.

Once you get past the important metrics, the differences between the two smart scales come down to compatibility and minute differences. If you're already using Garmin products, you should probably stick with the company here for easier integration. The same goes for Withings and the all-in-one Health Mate app. The latter also offers pregnancy and baby tracking tools, if that is of interest to anybody in your household.
If you're already on a brand team, it's probably best to stick with what you know.
Free layout design software for mac. Then there are those free apps. The Health Mate app collects data from both the scale and other Withings products. From there, you can share data with other services such as Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, RunKeeper, and more. Garmin Connect also works with third-party solutions such as Apple, Nike+, Strava, and RunKeeper. However, the former offers more third-party integrations at the time of this writing. Both apps offer coaching techniques to keep you on track.
There's no wrong answer here. With sales and discounts, your best choice of smart scales might be the one that's least expensive at the time of purchase. If you care about small differences like the number of profiles each can handle, the pregnancy tracking, a weather forecast, then that might also sway your decision.
Still, if you already have a team (Garmin vs. Withings), it's probably best to stick with what you know and save yourself some short-term headaches.
